The Best Beaches in Playa Del Carmen: Where the Sun, Sand, and on occasion Seaweed, Come Together
If you're looking for the ultimate beach experience, look no further than Playa Del Carmen! From the luxurious hotel zone of Playacar to the more local beaches of Colosio and Punta Esmeralda, there's something for everyone.
PLAYACAR BEACH
Let's start our beach journey at the beautiful hotel zone of Playacar, where the beaches are as soft as a baby's bottom and the sand is cleaner than your mother-in-law's house. With lots of all-inclusive resorts, it can be hard to walk there without being stopped by a dozen hotel staff asking if you want to upgrade your room or buy a timeshare. But if you can make it through, the beaches are worth it. Just make sure to avoid the seaweed that sometimes (season dependent) washes up, unless you're into that sort of thing.
CONSTITUYENTES BEACH
Next, we head down to the beach at the bottom of Constituyentes. This beach is rocky and requires water shoes, so make sure to bring your old Crocs or borrow your grandma's. The upside is that you'll feel like you're walking on the moon as you hop from rock to rock. Just watch out for the crabs that like to hide in the crevices.
MAMITAS, COCO BEACH AND PELICANOS
Continuing down the beach, we arrive at Playa Pelicanos, Coco Beach, and Mamitas. These beaches are where the party is at, with lots of beach clubs and music blasting. You'll feel like you're in an MTV Spring Break special, but with less celebrities and more drunk college students. Make sure to bring your wallet, because these beach clubs are not cheap. But hey, you can't put a price on getting a tan while listening to the latest reggaeton hits.
COLOSIO AND PUNTA ESMERALDA
Finally, we reach Colosio and Punta Esmeralda. This is the more local part of Playa Del Carmen, without many hotels, resorts, or beach clubs. You'll find mostly families and couples enjoying the sun and sand. It's a nice change of pace from the party scene at the other beaches, and you can finally hear yourself think without the thumping bass in the background.
So there you have it, the best beaches in Playa Del Carmen. Whether you're looking for a wild party or a peaceful getaway, Playa Del Carmen has it all. Just don't forget your water shoes and your wallet!
